Under India’s spell again

May 17, 2016 Cherrie | Comment (0)

India has a way of making you believe in mystical powers whether its fate, karma or destiny and that’s what we thought when a last minute opportunity to return to India happened the day after getting our Indian Visa through for a different trip later in the year. So how could we say no!

Samode Palace

Samode Palace

Having specifically designed this trip for 10 days around India’s famous ‘Golden Triangle’ it was really great to experience it ourselves and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Despite the short time, we visited Delhi, Agra and the monument of love – The Taj Mahal; Ranthambore in wonderful tented accommodation with safari drives – seeing tiger twice out of three safaris; Jaipur with its Amber Fort and then a lovely relaxing time in the beautiful Samode Palace, before returning to Delhi. Although I would always recommend spending more time in India whether it’s to see other amazing sights or to have time to relax on a beach; at least it gives you the most fantastic experience without being totally exhausting

A Welcome Return to Sri Lanka

October 18, 2015 Cherrie | Comment (0)

Whilst in Sri Lanka we heard the news that Sri Lanka has been given the title of Destination of 2015 by the Sunday Times.  It really didn’t come as a great surprise – being on the top of our list for a long time. Our most recent visit just confirmed it.

We have previously travelled extensively around Sri Lanka; covering the Cultural Triangle, the Central Highlands as well as the West and South Coast. We decided, due to the increasing demand to travel to Sri Lanka at all times of year, that we should complete the picture and visit in September when the East Coast is at its very best whilst the West and South Coast have their share of monsoons. With war a distant memory, the whole of the east coast is opening up into a fascinating destination which makes Sri Lanka a year-round attraction.

Sri Lanka – north, south, east and west

August 27, 2015 Cherrie | Comment (0)

How exciting! Now that the northern parts of Sri Lanka are opening up to tourism, my husband and I have been invited back to see areas that we didn’t get the chance to visit on our last trip.

Sri Lanka is unique in that it has two monsoon seasons, affecting different areas of the country – so it enables everyone to visit all year round by choosing the areas you visit – all of which are fascinating.

Peacock
The last time we went was during November when the weather is best on the West and South Coast – continuing right through until April. This time we will be going in September, so are visiting the sunny north and East Coast to see a completely different part of the country.

Have you ever …

India, Kerala, Cochin, waterways rainswept houseboat

Have you ever had a lazy breakfast on a houseboat as you float through the backwaters of Kerala as local people wash their clothes at the riverbank and Kingfishers flash blue through the reeds.

Indian Elephants

Have you ever swayed on the back of an elephant as you amble up the slope to the Amber Fort in Jaipur taking in the views and sounds of the ‘Pink City’.

Himalaya train

Have you ever gazed on the Himalayas from the quaint confines of one of the last remaining Steam trains in Asia as it chugs its way up through the foothills and Tea Estates to Darjeeling

An Adventure in Ecuador

December 7, 2014 Cherrie | Comment (0)

How can I possibly do justice to such a wonderful trip without repeating superlatives time and time again. The Galapagos Islands have always been very much at the top of my bucket list, ever since hearing about it in School. So when we got the chance to go there we took it immediately. Initially though we decided to explore Ecuador for the first week.

Quito actually became quite familiar to us as we stayed there for 4 nights in between excursions to the Cloud Forest and the Amazon. We were very fortunate to stay in the wonderful Casa Gangotena which is situated right in the middle of the old part of the town, so very easy to walk to the wonderful churches and also the lively area of La Rhonda. The hotel has been totally and carefully refurbished to keep the grand traditional style of a by gone era, the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff wonderfully attentive and the beautifully presented food, especially the high tea which is included in the price of the room, quite delicious.

Going Wild in Africa

July 2, 2014 Cherrie | Comment (0)

Going Wild in Africa
Well, we’ve finally done it! At long last we’ve fulfilled a dream and visited wildlife Africa.
However, far from satisfying our desires it’s just whetted our appetites for more of this fascinating and friendly continent.
Never having been to central Africa before but wanting to make the absolute most of our trip, we researched each and every country before deciding on a mix of Botswana and Zimbabwe – from a wildlife perspective – with a dash of Victoria falls and civilisation to offer a contrast.
